Running Away

I know of men who run away,
mostly from their fears and dreams.
They cannot see or hear those who want to lend a hand.
They cannot hear above their own screams.
I know of men who run away
from the sounding horn to face their foes.
These men embrace challenge
and are mostly praised in their repose.
I know of men who run away,
when the world moves to challenge their stance.
A few of them will choose to stay
and take the lead in their final dance.
I know of men who run away,
when an opinion is formed contrary to their own.
Most of these men will cower in fear,
as if seeking shelter from a raging cyclone.
I know a man who runs away
to his love, to his fear, to his destiny.
I know that man who stays and fights
for all he holds near and dear; even under strict scrutiny.
